How to make a chess club ladder from Lichess and chess.com ratings

Paste your Lichess team or chess.com club link into Club Ladder's Start page, pick the members, and press Create. The ladder lists every player's Lichess and chess.com ratings side by side and re-reads them every 10 minutes for players who are playing. A ladder of up to 15 players is free; the Club pass is $19 once. 1 ladder with 13 players is running now, reading 656 accounts (as of Nov 7, 2026).

Steps

  1. Go to Start a ladder and paste a lichess.org/team/... or chess.com/club/... link. Club Ladder lists the members with their current ratings. No team online? Start empty and give the ladder a name.
  2. Save the private admin link. It is the only key to the ladder; there are no accounts or passwords.
  3. Send players the invite link. Each one types their Lichess and/or chess.com username and puts a short code in their profile (Lichess: Biography or Location; chess.com: Location) to prove the account is theirs.
  4. Wait for the first readings. Imported Lichess members have ratings straight away; everyone else is read within an hour, with their last month of games, so charts don't start empty.

What the ladder shows

For each player: the rating in every time control on both sites, the change over 7 days, 30 days or a season, rated games played, and a streak. Each week the most improved player (biggest gain with at least 5 games in one pool) and the most active player are picked; public ladders' awards go into the weekly report (5 weeks). There are printable standings, pairing suggestions that use the Lichess to chess.com conversion, and a monthly report for parents.

Ranking players who use different sites

A chess.com 1200 and a Lichess 1200 are not the same strength. Club Ladder converts with a straight line fitted to 329 people who play on both sites (blitz: chess.com ≈ -1183 + 1.527 × Lichess), so pairings and the combined order are fair. See Lichess vs chess.com.

Limits

Ratings come only from the public Lichess and chess.com APIs; over-the-board FIDE or national ratings are not read. chess.com has no rating history API, so chess.com history starts the day a player joins (plus the games in their monthly archive). A failed read never counts as zero games.
